Pick a colour, any colour and then immerse yourself in it’s depths. BLUE was the colour calling me in these two different paintings. The SEA came out within the colour study as I thought of the oceans and waves I have spent many an hour in the past looking at. The sound of waves crashing dramatically onto a headland or the gentle lapping onto a sandy shoreline – but give me much pleasure.
Immerse yourself in a feeling or a view from the past and see what colour comes to you. Pick up paints, pencils, inks, papers in that colour and play! Play is the best route to creativity. Let your hands and heart guide you rather than your head. Do not be too precious with the piece. This is more about the immersive experience and letting an image create itself before you.
When you have completed the picture, take 2 L shaped pieces of card, and then use them to physically crop and choose an area of the picture that entices you in further. Physically cut the image to this new section and mount it on a piece of card. Be proud of your creation – post it here for us all to admire!
