In my town, a great Youth Festival is held every year celebrating art, drama, dance and music and which many local children join in. It is about taking part, not a competition on the whole. Giving children a chance to shine and experience performing on a real stage. My daughter, Helena, is here with her Highly Commended art piece entitled ‘Journey through the Seasons’, as this years theme was Journeys. Last night she danced to Paris Se Regarde wearing her beret. Last week she performed two pieces on her violin at the Junior Proms. The town is alive with creativity.
The arts are such an important part of a child’s development and school curriculum. It is a real shame in many places there is a constant battle for funding to keep these alive against the more traditional academic subjects that can be graded uniformly in an exam.
But here is the thing. All arts develop the creative brain muscles that are so important in today’s and the future workplace as new challenges will be faced.
So start the journey of creativity when you are young but remember to keep it flowing throughout all of your life.
